2023 MEIC and CNCAP Summer Training Course
The Multi-resolution Emission Inventory model for Climate and air pollution research (MEIC) is an atmospheric emissions modeling platform for anthropogenic activities, developed from the Multi-resolution Emission Inventory for China. The model has been developed and maintained by Tsinghua University since 2010. It aims to build a high-resolution, multi-scale global database of anthropogenic greenhouse gas and air pollutant emission inventories, and to share data products with the scientific community through a cloud-computing platform. MEIC provides fundamental emissions data support for scientific research, policy assessment, and air quality management.
The Carbon Neutrality and Clean Air Platform (CNCAP) is built upon independently developed models and datasets, including the Multi-resolution Emission Inventory for China (MEIC), the Dynamic Projection model for Emissions in China (DPEC), the Tracking Air Pollution in China dataset (TAP), and the Dynamic Mitigation Cost model (DMEC). It also couples and integrates multidisciplinary models such as the Global Change Analysis Model for China (GCAM-China), the Community Earth System Model (CESM), and atmospheric chemistry transport models including WRF-Chem and WRF-CMAQ. By designing future scenarios, including socioeconomic pathways, carbon neutrality pathways, air pollution control scenarios, and population age structures, and by projecting emission pathways, simulating pollution exposure, and assessing costs and benefits, the platform explores feasible pathways for achieving synergies between carbon neutrality and clean air. It provides support for the formulation, implementation, and optimization of relevant policies.
The 2023 MEIC and CNCAP Summer Training Course is designed for professionals engaged in research and management related to air pollution prevention and control, as well as the coordinated governance of pollution reduction and carbon mitigation. Starting with training on the use of the MEIC model and the CNCAP platform, the course provides systematic learning on specialized topics including emission inventory development, regional air quality management, and coordinated responses to carbon neutrality and clean air. It also provides a platform for exchanging the latest research progress. No tuition fee will be charged. Participants are responsible for their own accommodation and meals.
